Here at the cult, there is great emphasis on socializing. Meeting people. Making friends. I don't mind getting together with people now and again. I'm not opposed to meeting people and I'm mostly ok with making friends but not as items on an agenda. I'm perfectly fine here in my own apartment with my two cats and visits from Martha or Bonny. When I need to people, I go out to the elbow and work on the puzzle and visit with whoever wanders by.

Timber Ridge and the various resident led committees are always planning shit. Music programs, group stuff, outings. There's a puzzle group and art group, a million grief groups, low vision, hard of hearing, spousal support groups. My neighbor down the hall is trying to get a singles group going. Not a couples match up but more like people who want to do stuff with other people but don't have people to do it with. A laudable idea if that's what you want.

I almost never sign up for or attend any of it. The first year I was here, I went to a lot because I made friends with Myrna and Myrna's middle name was JOINER! So at least I've tried stuff. She and Martha and a couple of others were the social committee for the 3rd floor. They planned twice yearly get togethers. (All the floors have them.) I've been to every one since I moved here and they are dreadful. The last time, I went and decided it was the last time. Now Myrna's dead and Martha is over the whole planning process so they are looking for a new social committee. No one is volunteering. I suggested that we abandon the floor socials. What???? We can't do that!!! Why don't?? Because! Ok. Fine. Whatever.

BUT this morning I signed up for a thing. A kind of social thing. A social thing outside. Yeah, it's not me except it's a tour of an alpaca farm. May 7. It's about 30 minutes from here. It's advertised as rough ground so no one with walkers or mobility issues is encouraged. So far the list of people who have signed up is an ok list. I can still bail. It's a small group and there will be a long waiting list so we'll see.

Erica sent out an email yesterday saying that the pool will be closed for volleyball and aqua fit this morning but will likely open up some time today. So yeah!

The Mariners continue to lose. No real injuries or obvious issues like other teams. We have good, talented guys who are just playing shit. Oh well. It's not like we don't have 50 years of experience with losing.

I put Biggie's pill issues to Gemini and Gemini suggested a pill pistol. I ordered 2. One came yesterday. Fail. The pill is too big. One is coming today BUT Gemini may have solved the problem. In explaining how to use the pill pistol with a cat, it said to shoot the pill in the side of the mouth instead of straight down. I usually tilt his head back and aim for the middle of the back of the tongue. This morning, I tilted his head back and sent it down the side and got it in one! So... maybe...

Yesterday, somehow, a moth got in here and both cats just went nuts. They had a ball chasing it around for the longest time. I need to find a moth source. It would be a great and cheap cat gift!

I just got an email that someone 'friended' me on Live Journal. Interesting since my last post there was announcing that I'd be leaving and never posting again and that was 4 years ago...

A nice quiet day

silver_chipmunk: (Default)
I got up at 12:00, and have finally caught up on the sleep I missed when Marja was here. Had breakfast and coffee, and puttered around online for awhile.

Eventually I decided I should do something today, so I decided on the Queens Botanical Gardens. I showered, and washed my hair, and got dressed.

I started walking to the bus, when it suddenly hit me... It's Monday, isn't the Botanical Garden cosed on Monday? So I checked, using my phone, and sure enough, closed til 8:00 am Tuesday. Grumble.

But I had banking to do in Flushing, and I decided to get my face waxed, which it needed, so I went to the bus stop anyway. Took the 20 in, took care of my banking (I had a $50 bill I wanted to deposit and then withdraw in smaller denominations), and then went and got my face waxed.

I think she did a better job than any other time I've gone, and it cost me a bit more too. But so it goes.

I came home and decided I still wanted to do something. So I collected the book I'm reading, The King's Peace, and went to The Busy Bee coffee shop. I had an egg sandwich, very good, and a lavender cream latte. Then I sat an read for about 45 minutes. They close at 6:00 and it was just before closing time when I left.

Came home and puttered online. Actually got a little it of writing done, and then it was time to Team the FWiB.

We talked for close to an hour and a half, and then got off. [personal profile] mashfanficchick called, and we had a brief conversation to plan upcoming days.

Then I went into the bedroom and played solitaire. I also called the Kid, of course she didn't answer. It really is starting to annoy me. Anyway I texted her to please call.

Fed the pets at pet feeding time. Then I took a picture of the doctor's order for my DEXA scan on Thursday and sent it to the lab. [personal profile] mashfanficchick called again. I'm still waiting for the Kid to call.

And that's the day.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Caught up on sleep.

3. Got my face waxed.

4, The Busy Bee.

5. Good books.

I've kind of enjoyed my break from the pool but I'm over it now. Erica was hopeful that they could get it open today which would be fine by me.

I do think I may have solved a bit of my shower issue, though. There's a toilet paper stand that is in the way and Amazon is bringing me a much smaller one that may make it less of a PIA to use the shower. It arrives today - assembly required. I have several Amazon purchases arriving today.

One is a pill shooter. Biggie has this gynormous tablet that he has two take twice a day. Plus a much smaller one. The smaller one is no problem but that giant one is killing us both. Actually, it's just annoying him but between his teeth and claws my hand is not faring well.

I can't put it in his food because 1. I can't guarantee he'd even eat it all and 2. Julio might eat it. I can't put it in a pill pocket because he's not allowed non-prescription food. So we're going to try a pill pistol if I can find one that will handle a pill this size. Cutting it in half is not an option. I actually have a smaller version and could do that twice making 5 pills a day. ugly option.

No plans for today. I worked up a little doll backlog so I spent some time on my mitered corner blanket yesterday. I may do more today.

Starsky and Hutch chat

Apr. 19th, 2026 10:34 pm[personal profile] silver_chipmunk
silver_chipmunk: (Default)
Woke up at 10:00ish, then dozed in bed for another two hours. Finally got up a bit after 12:00, had breakfast and coffee, and at 1:30 went to the Starsky and Hutch creative work session.

Had a very good time chatting, and got a little bit of writing done. We stayed chatting til around 6:00.

I went to the bedroom and played solitaire until just before 7:00, then came out and Teamed the FWiB. We talked until 8:30.

I called Middle Brother then. He is fine, nothing new.

I went to the bedroom and called [personal profile] mashfanficchick, and we talked for awhile. Nothing new. Then I called the Kid, who did not answer, of course, so I texted her to please call. We'll see if she does.

Then I made dinner and ate, and went back to the bedroom til pet feeding time. And that was the day.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Catching up on missed sleep.

3. The Starsky and Hutch fandom.

4. Middle Brother doing well.

5. Friends.

6. The Kid.

I'm ok with taking a few days off from the pool but the down side is that I now have to shower here in my own bathroom and I really do not like this shower. The glass doors make it not convenient. You have to slide them one way and reach around to turn the shower on and then slide them the other way to get in and it's just a PIA. When I first saw the apartment, I asked if I could have the doors removed and was told (by marketing) that I could but when it came time, Timber Ridge said no. If I had to use that shower all time time, I think I'd press the matter further even now but, since I'm at the pool every day and use that shower (no shower doors), I don't bother. But now...

Oh well.

The laundry is laundrying and the phone app says there is another 30 minutes until time to fold and hang.

And that's it for the plans for the day. There is a Mariners game this afternoon.

I started a new book yesterday. I really didn't even want to read it but I've been on the wait list at the library since forever so I thought I should at least give it a start and now, of course, I'm hooked. It's an epistolary novel and I'm a sucker for reading other people's mail. Plus, it's the letters to and from a woman only a couple of years younger than I am. So of course, I'm hooked. The Correspondent by Virginia Evans.

And there is plenty of TV to watch so I'm sedentarily set for the day!

Day 2 at the Met

Apr. 19th, 2026 12:44 am[personal profile] silver_chipmunk

Got up and had breakfast and coffee, showered and dressed, and went to my Al-anon meeting. I made it on time despite running late all morning. The meeting was very good.

I didn't go to the diner afterward, I went straight to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's. D rode on the bus and the subway for a good part of the way with me, which was interesting. He's a very strange person.

Anyway I got to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's and we went into Manhattan, by the F train to the E. Before we took a bus to the museum we looked for someplace to eat, and went to Thisbowl, and Australian chain. I got a bowl with salmon.

Then we took the bus to the Met, and waited for Marja on the steps. It didn't take long, and then we went into the museum.

We went to the American wing and spent most of our time there. Tiffany glass windows and things, so beautiful.

Eventually Marja was tired though so we left and took the bus back to the subway and came back to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's. I Teamed the FWiB, and we ordered Mexican food for dinner. I had a shrimp quesadilla.

After that we watched the final episode of Heated Rivalry. It's so sweet.

Then I took an Uber home and fed the pets and here I am.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Marja.

3. The Met.

4. Good food.

5. My meetings and the people there.

6. Good TV.

Yesterday I had a particularly nice swim. My swim sessions are getting longer and longer because they are getting more and more enjoyable. Also swimming was Carl who is a bit of a weirdo. I can't tell if he's neurologically challenged or just thick or what but he's clearly a few pixels off. He sometimes plays volleyball with us but not often and not well.

Shortly after I got home, I got an email that the pool was closed til further notice due to fecal matter in the water. WTF????? Did I poop and not know it?? Erica (the fitness director) and I swapped a few emails and I learned that, apparently, Carl's colostomy bag sprung a leak. It will take until at least Monday and maybe longer to get the water cleaned and chemically adjusted again.

So... no volleyball today. The Mariners took their own sweet time losing last night so I got to sleep late-ish. And this morning I woke up at 5:30... I rolled over and decided to close my eyes for a bit and the next thing I knew it was nearly 8!!! And the cats were having fits.

Then, the second bombshell of the day dropped... I have gained a half pound and lost very little in the past week. So I quit counting calories and for the past two days have just eaten what I wanted. This morning I was down a pound and a half.

This is from yesterday but... wanna see my new comforter?

PXL_20260417_221456810

I got the most delightful email from Scott and Julie - my New Zealand friends - last night. They have their sights on one last grand trip to the US next year. While they were here last year, I gave them a list of places in the Southeast which is one area they have never been to. So Scott turned that list over to CoPilot with some parameters and CoPilot designed a wonderful 3 weeks from Nashville to Asheville to Savannah and Atlanta. With stops at places in between that I hadn't even thought of but will be spectacular. They are planning on arriving in mid-May and then stopping in Denver for Moab, Monument Valley, Silverado and then on to Atlanta for the Southwest Tour and then to here for a week of telling me all about their adventures before they take their over packed suitcases home. It sounds wonderful.

Time now to get dressed and ready for Elbow Coffee. Man, when you sleep in, your day sure gets cut short! (Captain Obvious reporting for duty.)

That's the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I got up at 10:00 and had breakfast and coffee. Then I showered and dressed and headed over to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's.

Marja had already left. [personal profile] mashfanficchick had some stuff to do before we left, but eventually we headed out to Manhattan. We took the E train and then the M3 bus.

We got to the museum and decided to eat first, from the food trucks outside. Expensive and mediocre food. We got bubble tea also. And that also was, sadly, mediocre. We sat on the steps to eat and that was interesting.

Then we went into the museum. We wandered mostly looking at random stuff from the middle ages, Byzantium, and some from the Renaissance.

Then Marja texted that she was on her way, so we went outside and sat on the steps again. When Marja got there we left, taking the M1 bus back to the E train.

We went back to [Unknown site tag]'s. We ordered food, Indian and thenwhile it was being delivered, Marja took a nap, and I Teamed the FWiB.

After the food got there, I got off the Team, and we ate, Then we talked for awhile, and finally watched two episodes of Heated Rivalry. It's just as good the second time around. Even better actually.

But it got late o I Ubered home and fed the pets.

And now it's time for bed.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Friends.

3. The Met.

4. The rain missed us. Only rained when we were inside.

5. Heated Rivalry.

6. Bed now.

Yesterday I went into Target to get Benefiber and came out with Benefiber and a comforter. Hmmm. That's some expensive fiber! My new rule is no more so if I buy new, I have to get rid of a like item. So I did. I put a comforter and two coffee mugs that I never use, out in the elbow with a FREE sign and they were gone in an hour.

The new comforter is wonderful to sleep under. I mean really. My sleep score from last night.

Screenshot 2026-04-17 8.38.41 AM

Lately I've been dreaming a lot and dreaming a lot about dead people. My parents, my friend, John, other friends - they have all been dead now for more than just a few years, yet in my dreams, they show zero signs of deadness. It's kind of wild.

Bonny has bronchitis and fairly robust case of it. Today she goes in for her pre hip replacement visit. She's due for surgery in two weeks. I cannot imagine that anyone is going to approve her for surgery - at age 86 - but she can't imagine they are going to object. Should be interesting.

Jan took her arm to the surgeon on Wednesday. It's a bad break and a piece of bone is floating around her arm but, no surgery. They told her at her age, it was not recommended. She was delighted/insulted. They did not even give her a real cast. Once a day she's to take her arm out of the sling and bend it and lift it touching her shoulder slowly 4 times. Come back in six weeks. Without the surgery, her range of motion will be somewhat limited. She won't be able to reach the top cabinets. But, her husband is tall. Her pitching career, however, is over.

And speaking of age, it finally happened. When someone here dies, they put out little framed photos with the birth date and the death date. I always check to make sure they were well older than I am now. Today there is one who was born in 1954. I was born in 1949. My Won't Happen To Me bubble is burst (bursted?).

This morning I need to take down the stack of done or won't ever do puzzles to the puzzle closet and do some shopping.

But, that's about it for chores. I want to watch the finale of The Pitt. And I have the last 30 minutes of my current book to listen to. And the knitting to do. I'm shoring up my doll supply so I can spend some time on my other projects.

But, first I need to get dressed.

Ha. The cats, who usually spend this time of day on their cat beds that are under my bed. This morning, they are wallowing on the new comforter. A win for all, I guess.

Weekend at Poppa and Nana's

Apr. 13th, 2026 11:46 am[personal profile] dorchadas
dorchadas: (Maedhros A King Is He (No Text))
We spent last weekend at Poppa and Nana's since we haven't been there in a long while (since Thanksgiving!)

My mother recently had hip surgery so she wasn't very mobile, and Laila is still not allowed to do a lot of her usual physical activities since she's recovering from her surgery, so this was a very low-key visit. Nana read some books to Laila, Laila rode her tricycle around their house--still pushing off the floor, not pedaling, despite our attempts to teach her how to pedal--I went on a walk with Laila and Poppa, and we watched Frog and Toad. Since Nana couldn't prep a full dinner, we ordered Thai food the first night and ate that and Poppa barbecued some fish and hamburgers the second day. We mostly stayed in the whole weekend, and Laila didn't even throw any tantrums about not being able to go jump on the trampoline. It was nice and low-key.

The one external thing we did was visit [facebook.com profile] shane.suydam and [facebook.com profile] meaghan.figg, who now live only a couple blocks from my parents' house! They have twins and we arrived just when one of the twins was waking up from her nap (the other was already awake). They were a bit unsure of how to handle Laila, especially since they'll be turning two soon and Laila is almost five, but they got along well enough. For her part, Laila was very happy at two full rooms filled with toys and spent a bunch of time in the ball pit, though she did play directly with one of the twins too--there was a stacking toy with pieces that had from one to five holes in them and pins to put them on, and the twin handed pieces to Laila while Laila put them all on the pins. Then we ended with a bit of time in the backyard (though Laila sadly wasn't allowed to climb on the playset) before going back for barbecue and then going home.

Nana's restrictions end in May, just before Laila's. It'll be a long wait for both of them but hopefully they recover okay.

[personal profile] mashfanficchick invited someone we know from the Starsky and Hutch fandom to spend the night with zer when she was in town tonight from Ireland. So ze asked me to come over and help get things ready.

So I got up at 10:00 today and had breakfast and coffee, and put in a Shipt order. Then I showered and dressed, and when the Shipt order arrived, took a Lyft over to zer place.

We tidied things up for an hour or so, and put on a load of laundry of sheets and blankets.

Then we ordered Thai food for dinner. At 7:00, just before it got there, I Teamed the FWiB from my phone. We talked til 8:30 when I had to get off to call Middle Brother.

There was no answer when I called, which is a little worrisome, but could simply mean the whole group home was out some place. He eventually called me, in about 20 minutes, and I think they ha been out. He said they went to Sunken Meadow Park today, so that might have been it.

Anyway, after that we put on the episodes of Will Trent we missed while [personal profile] mashfanficchick was in Ohio. We got through two of them, and then our friend called and said she was almost to the subway stop so we turned off the third episode and went down to meet her.

After she got there, we went to Cobblestones for her to get some dinner. I had a snack of onion rings. We had a nice time talking over food.

Then we walked back to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's place. and made the air bed up, and they got ready for bed and I took an Uber home.

I fed the pets and started here, and that's the day.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Shipt.

3. During the day I shifted my phone to using google messenger, and now I can get the messages that I couldn't before.

4. Our friend Marja.

5. Good TV.

6. Bed soon.

Well, the collected Skippy so far on the Facility guy so far is that he got pissed off at the parent company (LCS) and told them where to stick it. And he's now working at a Hyatt resort up the road about an hour. About half the people are 'it's such a loss' and the other half are not saying anything which I'm reading as 'not such a loss'. He had a tendency to make pronouncements about future stuff that then never happened. I was never overly impressed.

The Mariners beat the Padres last night in really the first real win of the series. It's the first game where the opposing team played really well and we still won so that's why it feels like the first win. It's about fucking time.

[edit later in the day... I turned the game off in the middle of the 9th inning. The Padres had done little and the score was Mariners 6 Padres 2. I was sleepy. While I was sleeping, the Padres scored 5 runs in the 9th. so... no win for the Mariners after all.]

I'm thinking about running a couple of errands today - I need to stop at Safeway but I just saw a new sandwich at Trader Joe's that looks interesting and I could use more Mandarin orange chicken. I need to inventory the fridge before I go.

I got a new United Health Care insurance card in the mail yesterday with some different numbers. No explanation why. The instructions said to activate, so I did and now I have no access to the data from the old card and the new card isn't valid til May 1. Weird. Oh wait. I just logged in again and now I can choose between the old and the new. Very weird but ok.

I've really got nothing else to report so I think I'll go get dressed and head on out.

Day of Doom

Well, for anyone who didn't have their taxes done at least. Today is Tax Day. Of course my taxes were done back on the 2nd if everyone recalls.

So anyway, I got up at 8:30 I think, ate breakfast, and went back to bed. Then I woke up at 11-ish, didn't get up, fell back asleep, and got up at 12-ish. I think.

I didn't do much today. I puttered around, listened to music on Pandora, a different station than I usually listen to, Classic Recline. I like it, all the songs were things I knew and liked.

Eventually I got bored and showered and dressed. Then I cleaned the cat pan, and took the dirty litter and the empty box out, and walked around the block. Have to do a Shipt order soon, now, and get more litter.

At 7:00 I tried to Team the FWiB, an had technical difficulties. I ended up having to use my phone. We talked til 8:00 when it was time for my D&D game. I was worried that I'd have issues with Discord too, but it did fine. So go figure.

In the game we established a new base, after killing a bunch of bugbears. So now we have a place to live after the keep tossed us out.

After the game I fed the pets and had dinner. And now I'm doing this.

[personal profile] mashfanficchick got home safely today.

Last night I started reading The King's Peace by Jo Walton. I think I may have read it already, but zI don't remember much if I did.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Clean cat litter.

3. Music.

4. My gaming group.

5. [personal profile] mashfanficchick home.

6. Good books.

News on a lot of Fronts!

First, I feel that I'll be accused of burying the lead (alternately lede, if you are old school)  if I don't start with this: I got the library job out in Anoka County!!

This is exciting!

And also a hassle!

As I may have mentioned in my previous post about this, there were two jobs available to the candidates. I was sincere when I told the interviewers that I did not care which one I got, if I got one. It is, of course, easiest to say that when actually landing the job seems like a distant prospect. The job I ended up with has, what is quite obviously, the more terrible schedule of the two options. Library work always requires evening and weekend work, but I will be working both Saturdays and Sundays every other week. This is particularly rough for me, as someone who often hopes to attend SFF conventions on the weekends. I am unclear how friendly this workplace will be to me announcing that I can not work some assigned shifts? I won't have to test this until July, when Convergence is going to slam headlong into a "week 2" of my schedule, aka my weekend hours. (I am also GoH, as mentioned many times now, at Quantum Con, but as CHANCE WOULD HAVE IT, that weekend falls on my "week 1" week and thus is not a week I am expected to work weekends.)

So, it's going to be interesting to work all that out. For the moment, I am excited to be taking on some extra work, especially since the nice thing about this particular schedule is that I will only be expected to work two four hour shifts, every work week. The way everything actually works out, given that week 1 begins on a Tuesday for me, there will, in fact be weeks where I will have worked the previous weekend and then also have to work into the evenings of both Tuesday and Thursday. But then I'll get this weidly long gap before I have to do it again.

I can see why this position was open? I can only imagine people want out of it ASAP.

Given that we are a one car family, this is also just... a lot of logistics for us. We have solutions to all of that in the works already, however.

Second, since a lot of you got very invested in my phone problems yesterday, I am happy to report that I am already in possession of a brandnew phone. I have not yet moved everything over to it, but that will probably happen tonight. (I may need my wife at home to hold my hand, as Tracfone can be notoriously annoying when activating and switching to a new phone. At least my previous/current phone is still in my possession and I can access it. The worst is when you've lost or totally bricked your previous phone.) In the meantime, the gods have chosen to laugh at me. Yesterday, after spending the day (and notably my patrol) with my phone OUT LOUD sans earphones,* I dropped it. I didn't think anything of it until, without thinking, I went to turn it on with my headphone jack and VIOLA. It suddenly decided to work again. This was, of course, about two second after Shawn had hit the "buy it" button at Best Buy.

Ah well.

Otherwise, today is Wednesday and I have managed to read almost nothing the entire week. I have a zillion books out from the Ramsey County Library right now. They're even manga, something that I am known to consume at ligthning speeds. For whatever reason, I have just not picked them up. I'm going to renew them one more time, but, obviously, if I can't get through them after that, I'll just have to give up. The same has been happening with my audiobooks. I did start to listen to Volatile Memory by Seth Haddon, but I just couldn't get into it. What I have on audio right now is:

Sunbirth by An Yu
Audition by Katie Kitamura
The King Must Die by Kemi Ashing-Giwa

If anyone has a recommendation of which I should try next, please let me know!

I just hopped over to Instagram and it looks like my mutual aid folks are up and in operation today. I still need to have a little bit of something to eat for lunch, but I might wander over there in a bit and give them some of my time. Also, I am curious AF if Colin actually got enough money to fully fund "distro" or if we're going to be sending out sad little bags of beans and a couple of apples or what. Curiosity and drama. It's what my end of this resistance runs on.

If people want, I can also give you an anti-ICE resistance update at some point. The short of it is that last Friday I was on a live call while on foot patrol near a local mosque and listened to a commuter attempt to stop an abduction here in St. Paul. According to what I heard on school bus patrol yesterday, there was also another person stolen from their family and their home extra-legally the day before (Monday, also in Saint Paul). The bastards are still doing their grab and go of human beings, many of whom are attempting to follow the legal process of immigration. (And even if they aren't? Masked men randomly hauling a person away isn't how this is supposed to happen.) We, the Resistance, are generally low on commuters and patrolers "post surge," so that isn't helping matters. If we don't get recordings of these events, ICE can lie about them more easily and/or act like they never happened. Luckily, I know for a fact that during the Friday's kidnapping, our commuter was able to get the name of the person ICE abducted. Thanks to being there and his quick thinking, that meant we could follow-up. While I listened, I heard reports of people returning to the scene to try to find family, friends or other contacts to make sure that the abductee's family knew they had been taken and try to get them legal aid, anything else they might need right away.

I can't even imagine what it must be like. To say goodbye to a loved one or your parent or your child as they (or you) head to work in the morning and then.... they just never come home. And you don't know where they went or if they're okay. And by the time you find out, if you ever do, they might be in another state or another country, all alone.  If that happened to Shawn I wouldn't even know what to do, how to go on. To think that my neighbors face this every day is just heartbreaking.

And this is why I pray some of us will never stop fighting.

"Awake in the Night" icon during the day? What?

So last night, right before bed, [instagram.com profile] sashagee took Laila's temperature and found that it was above the 38.6°C threshold for us to call into the hospital and so we did. After some deliberation on their end, they asked us to come in, so we hauled Laila out of bed and brought her to the Lurie's Children's Hospital emergency room.

At 8:45 p.m. we checked in.
At 10:30 p.m. they took her vitals and a respiratory illness swab.
At 11:45 p.m. they took us back to a room.
At 12:15 a.m. a doctor came and asked us what the problem was.
At 12:30 a.m. they took her vitals again
At 1:30 a.m. they they took a blood sample and a more comprehensive respiratory swab
At 1:45 a.m. she fell asleep.
at 3:00 a.m. a doctor came back and told us based on the blood sample and the swab...she had a cold and needed rest and fluids.

Emoji Psyduck

So we all went home and went to sleep, and [instagram.com profile] sashagee woke up early to let me get extra sleep. Once I woke up, I tagged in and she went back to sleep...and so did Laila so here I am sitting and writing this. Laila has felt perfectly fine since around 10 p.m. last night and other than being tired, doesn't seem sick at all. I was skeptical before we went in that it would be anything, and it wasn't, but you really don't want to mess around with any infection on your head so it was worth getting checked out. But I'm definitely tired.

Ok, let's try this

I'm over watching calories. I learned that if I eat what I want when I want, I'm at or under what I need to lose/maintain. And I'm still eating way less than I was before Wegovy and I'm still fine with it. So I'm back to whatever. I will say, after 3 full months, the other bits of me that have actually shrunk any are still my wrists. Not on my top 35 body places to lose inches but then I didn't really specify originally.

Also, here's a fun old lady situation. My left wrist is way smaller than my right. My right ankle is way smaller than my left.

The Mariners, turns out, have a tough time winning unless they are playing a team that sucks worse than they do. It's going to be a looooooooong Summer at this rate.

Today is the monthly public Food & Beverage meeting.

Oh, I before the other meeting yesterday, the CEO dropped out so I ended up not going at all. Nice.

The CEO sent out a letter yesterday saying that the head of Maintenance left as of last Friday. As in the corporate world, when you leave a company on good terms, it's generally with a few weeks of goodbye and a little reception. When you are fired or Take This Job And Shove it, your departure is announced after the fact. The last two major departures here - Food and Beverage Director and Facilities Director - have been after the fact. This time there won't be a lot of tears. He had issues. But he had been here a fairly long time.

I ran into Jim Down The Hall yesterday. First time since he and his girlfriend got back from their multi week road trip. He said it was a good trip. I said 'can't wait to hear about it at elbow coffee on Saturday'. Then he told me they were leaving tomorrow for a long weekend in Oregon. Holy fuck, man. Time to stay home and do laundry!! He is 90 and she is 85.

I need my hair cut in the back but my brother is not coming back until June and Bonny is sick. I may have to mangle it myself.

I got up at 8:30, and had breakfast. [personal profile] mashfanficchick texted me that ze was staying an extra day in Ohio, to help out with a specific issue. Then ze called me by messenger so Theo could show me something. I was properly impressed, and then went back to bed until 11:00.

Then I got texts from cousin Steve, first, that Mike and Kat had their baby, a girl, and then to tell me he and Amy were going to be in the city soon, and did I want to meet for lunch. Of course yes. So I told him the days I was free and we'll see what happens.

I called the sleep doctor's back, and finally got to speak to a human. She took my info and said someone ould call me to schedule me.

After puttering around online for awhile I went to the bedroom to finish reading The Godmother. While I was reading they called back from the sleep doctor, and I have an appointment for the study. And there's no copay, which is very good, especially since I may end up Ubering home afterward at a cost of $70. On the way there I'll take mass transit, but since I'll be leaving at 6:00 the next morning, I think Ubering makes more sense despite the cost.

I got delivery of both my Thriftbooks orders, the second Scholomance book, and the first in a Jo Walton trilogy, The King's Peace. I want to read that because Jo Walton is the Guest of Honor at Worldcon when I'm going to be there.

After finishing The Godmother, I decided I needed to actually do something constructive today, and emptied all my trash baskets. I tossed on some clothes and took out the trash, an walked around the block as usual.

I texted the Kid and asked her to call me after 9:00. To my surprise she called me right then, so I filled her in on everything. We didn't talk long but it was nice.

At 7:00 I Teamed the FWiB. We talked until I had to get off for my Al-anon meeting by Zoom.

The meeting was quite good, though M didn't come. But S was there and two other people showed up.

After the meeting I had dinner, then went to the bedroom and played solitaire on my phone. I need to decide which book I'm going to read next!

Then it was pet feeding time so I did that and here I am. Oh, I was actually able to get Oreo into the carrier all the way this morning, though just for a few seconds. But it's a start.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. The Kid.

3. Heard from the sleep doctor.

4. Got two books.

5. My meetings and the people there.

6. Going to see Steve and Amy.

So Jan's down an arm. And Dick (her husband) is suffering from 1st year at Timber Ridge Tax Return which is a real thing and painful. Now Bonny has bronchitis. And Joan has increasingly severe dental issues. This place is a mind field of old people fails.

Crap. Bonny just reminded me that we have a meeting of the 3rd floor today. Fuck. I went once and it was so painful. But the CEO is speaking today and talking about the near future plans for rearrangement of the first floor common areas. It might be worth going. Maybe. It's not til 3 which is way too late in the day for me to get interested in anything outside this apartment. Grumble grumble grumble.

At least today is cleaning day. Also the Blue Bin is outside Jim Across The Hall's Door. They station this big blue bin outside the door of any apartment where there is move in or move out - for boxes and trash. So maybe we'll see some action today.

They have a very delicious giant tortilla wrap on the lunch menu this week - it has all kinds of stuff in it and is delicious. 1/2 for lunch and 1/2 for dinner = perfect. I'm going to do it again today. Easy and handy and tasty!

Wish Me Luck

For months now, I've been turning my phone on by plugging my earphones into the jack. Some time around last August (I remember because it first happened when I was one of the GoHs at Diversicon,) my on/off button just stopped working consistantly. If someone texted/called me or if I lucked out, I could sometimes turn it on.Eventually, it fully failed. I discovered that the screen would turn on when it registered a device being plugged in, so I just carried around a zillion pair of earphones so I could always turn it on as needed.

I've been skating by on that for... well, I mean what is that? Almost six months?

Last night the earphone jack gave up the ghost. It accepts no plug into that jack as anything real. If I'm listening to a podcast, everyone gets to hear that I'm into "Betwixt the Sheets" and other sex history podcasts. That is, when I can turn it on. Right now, the only thing my phone will still recognize as a device is its charging cord--but only when active, as in plugged in. In essence it's a landline now, which is not what I need and, as it happens, I still have a landline.

I found a place on University that supposedly will deal with ancient technology like my Samsung, so, hopefully, they'll be able to fix one or both of the phone's problems. It'd be cool if I could actually turn it on the normal way again, but I'd settle for a working earphone jack.

Before you yell at me, yes. The plan *is* to buy a new phone. They're not that expensive. This will be an "in the meantime" as we wait for it to arrive solution. And, yeah, I'm aware that it's possible that the repair person will tell me that the cost of fixing it is more than the price of a new phone (keeping in mind that my family buys cheap-ass phones from Tracfone.) In which case, I'll figure something out. I can keep a charging cord in my car and so maybe before I go out on school patrol I can plug it in and just make sure I am always tapping the screen so I don't lose the ability to go on mic or, you know, hang up. I'll still be without headphones, which would suck, but you know, needs must.

My appointment at the shop is for noon. I'm hoping for something simple and cheap.

Wish me luck.
